Bibi-Khanum live on Euronews.

Euronews for the premiere of the new TV show “Postcards of Uzbekistan”, dedicated to one of the most famous sights of Samarkand — a grandiose Cathedral mosque Bibi-Khanym.
The European TV channel called the mosque of Bibi Khanum, a real gem of architecture of Samarkand, which is over 600 years old. It is noted that its construction was begun after another victorious campaign of Temur to India: the ruler wished to outshine everything he had seen earlier mosques, churches and palaces.
The visitors impress with majestic dimensions and magnificence of the building, whose height reaches 50 meters, which corresponds to the height of 15-storey building.
In September-October this year a film crew headed by a leading cycle Postcards Seamus Kearney has been back to Uzbekistan and was shooting a new episode of “Postcards of Uzbekistan”, dedicated to the cultural heritage and tourist attractions of the Republic.

Trade Cupolas

Trade Cupolas

Bukhara was a big trade, handicraft and administrative center of Central Asia during medieval times. It was here where the Great Silk Road passed and connected state of Middle East with India and China. Centuries elapses, at the present time, only four trade cupolas preserved.

Trade cupola Toki-Sarrofon: next to Lyabi Khauz there is a cupola under which passes a crossroad. Around it there are trade shops. Some when there was located one of the biggest currency exchanges of Central Asia: merchants from India, China and other countries exchanged monies with moneychangers who were named sarrafs. The name of the trade cupola came therefrom. However, it is possible to buy here only carpets, shawls and other souvenirs centuries later here.

Telpak Furushon  trade cupola: earlier there was trade in books at this place; therefore, initially the indoor bazaar was named Kitab-Furushon (book traders’ cupola). Male, female and children’s hats were later traded there. There it was possible to purchase kerchiefs, skullcaps embroidered with beads, fur sari and fancifully folded tyurbans. Therefore, the current of the bazaar Taki-Telpak Furushon, a cupola of hat sellers came from.

Chor-Bakr Necropolis

Chor-Bakr Necropolis

A unique necropolis Chor-Bakr (“Four Brothers”) launched for construction in XVI century is located five kilometers to the south-west from Bukhara, in Sumitan Village.

Construction of the necropolis was started at the time of the Samanides when Djuybar Seyids already occupied important state positions in Bukhara. The most ancient part of the necropolis represents a burial place of Abu-Bakr Sa’ad. Abu-Bakr Sa’ad is considered “prophet’s descendant” and an ancestor of the head of Djuybar Sheikhs, that is to say a founder of the entire dynasty of Djuybar Seyids.

Chor-Bakr Necropolis is a distinctive “city of deads”; it has own streets, yards, gates; however, instead of houses everywhere there are dakhmas and gravestones. In the center of the necropolis there are located three main buildings: a mosque, khanaka and madrasah. The front facades of the mosque and khanaka are implemented in form of portals with arched vaults, and the side facades are implemented in form loggias located in two levels.

The necropolis represents a rather large architectural complex included to the UNESCO catalogue.
